Dear Running, Thank You
we don’t say it enough. we track you, train for you, complain about you. we curse your hills and dread your early mornings. but we rarely stop to just say it. thank you.
thank you for being there before the races and after them. for mattering just as much when there’s a goal on the calendar as when there’s nothing on it at all. some days you’re a finish line to chase. some days you’re just thirty minutes where the world finally goes quiet. both have saved us.
thank you for the health. not just the heart and the lungs, but the kind they can’t measure. the heaviness you lifted at mile two. the clarity that showed up when we needed an answer. the proof, over and over, that we’re capable of hard things.
thank you for the people. the strangers you turned into training partners. the training partners you turned into family. nothing else could have introduced us. you gathered us from different lives, different paces, different stories, and gave us one road to share. everything we have, the friendships, the community, the thursday nights, the sunrise crews, all of it traces back to you.
thank you for being patient. for waiting through the injuries and the lost seasons and the months we swore we’d quit. you never held it against us. the road was always there when we came back, no questions asked.
and thank you for the in-between. the parts nobody posts. the quiet shoe-tying before dawn. the nod between strangers mid-run. the walk home after a hard one, tired in the best way. that’s where you did your finest work.
we owe you more than we can ever log.
with everything we have,
your runners. 🖤🪶
